The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, along with the help of several other state agencies, have found the body of a missing male that reportedly drowned Wednesday morning, July 31, near Cowford Boat Launch at Wheeler Lake.
“We know who it is, but we are not releasing that information at the time,” Limestone County Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin told The News Courier Wednesday.
The sheriff’s office responded to a 911 emergency call at about 8 a.m. Wednesday concerning a boater in distress and a capsized boat that was sinking.
“There were two passengers, one got out of the water,” McLauglin said.
According to McLaughlin, rescue crews recovered the body prior to 2 p.m., but the exact time the body was found is unknown. During the search, the Limestone County Emergency Management Agency and First Responders asked the public to avoid the area, and the surrounding waterway, until further notice.
It was a pretty big search (with) a lot of area to cover, McLaughlin said earlier Wednesday.
McLaughlin noted that several agencies, including the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Morgan County Rescue Squad and Limestone County Rescue Squad, were among the many agencies that assisted in the search for the drowned male.
