For Lamar School it’s now about doing something they’ve had success with so far this season.
Winning on the road.
The Raiders will make a three-plus hour trip up to Senatobia to face Magnolia Heights in the second round of the MAIS Class 5A playoffs.
Lamar (7-4) have won its last two games on the road and is expected to have starting quarterback Wyatt Bond back this week.
“We are excited about the challenge of having to travel up to Senatobia,” said Lamar School coach Jacob Land. “We’ve played well this year on the road with a big win at Copiah and East Rankin so I believe our kids will have confidence in themselves that they can be successful on the road again this Friday.”
The Raiders (6-4) will once again bring in a very explosive offense that is averaging 32.5 points, 205.6 yards passing, and 140.3 yards rushing led by quarterback and Jones College commit Wyatt Bond (2,058 yards passing, 23 touchdowns), running backs Ashton Jones and Kellan Kerley, and receivers Jalin Trotter (1,030 yards receiving, 13 touchdowns) and Sullivan Reed.
“We’ve got to continue to play with confidence and a belief in each other,” Land said. “They’ve got play makers on both sides so we have to execute at a very high level too.”
Linebackers Tyler Brown, Kellan Kellery, Luke Morrow, along with Mikael Willis and Trotter in the secondary, lead a Lamar defense that allows 20.4 points per game.
The Chiefs (9-2) are averaging 27.9 points per game led by quarterback Cole Prosek. Defensively, Magnolia Heights does give up 20.9 points per game.
“Same as last week with Coleman Carter. Hope and Pray he slips a few times. He is a true playmaker,” Land said. “When the ball is in his hands it’s scary because he can throw and run it so well. It’s going to be another huge challenge for our defense to slow him and this offense down.”
