MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County volleyball team dropped both of its regular-season meetings to Valdosta this year, but turned the tables at the Region 1-6A tournament held Saturday at the high school.
The Lady Packers beat the Lady Cats 2-0 in the first round to qualify for the state tournament that begins Oct. 15.
The Lady Packers then fell 2-0 to both Lowndes and Camden County, but will advance as the region’s No. 4 team and will face the Region 5-6A champion in the first round of the state tournament.
Richmond Hill won the region championship, but needed three sets to win its region tournament opener over Camden County 23-25, 25-22, 15-4.
The Lady Wildcats claimed the region title by winning both sets over Lowndes, which will go to the state tournament as the region’s No. 2 team.
Camden County, which eliminated Tift County 25-13, 25-15 in the first round, will be the region’s No. 3 team.
The Lady Packers had lost to Valdosta 25-19, 25-22 at home on August 29 and dropped both sets at Valdosta on September 19, 25-18, 25-12.
Saturday’s first set was tied 8-8 when Lady Packers coach Jess Patel called a timeout.
Colquitt proceeded to take the next nine points and went on to a 25-16 victory.
In the second set, Valdosta took a 4-3 advantage and held it until Colquitt wrestled it back when it went up 19-18.
Valdosta tied it 19-19, but the Lady Packers claimed six of the final seven points to win 25-20.
Lowndes never trailed when it defeated the Lady Packers 25-16, 25-19 in the second round.
In the match for third place, Camden County defeated the Lady Packers 25-22, 25-21.
Colquitt will take a 10-17 record into the state tournament.
Tift County and Valdosta, which fell in the first-round matches, will not advance.
