THOMASVILLE – It was bit of a solemn senior night for the Thomas County Central Lady Jackets softball team as they struggled in a difficult 5-1 loss against Lowndes.
The Lady Jackets struggled to get the bats going as they secured just four hits in the game. Two of those hits came in the bottom of the third when Gina Morabito singled and was then driven in for the Lady Jackets sole run off a Jaida Pinkins triple.
Laney Mobley was a bright spot in a sour night for the Lady Jackets as she took the mound. Central’s ace pitcher, despite getting popped for seven hits which included a homer in the first, was actually quite good against the Vikings. She went all seven innings and secured 13 strikeouts.
This was Mobley’s 15th start for the Lady Jackets and she has been all but perfect. In 78 innings pitched this season she has secured 75 K’s, averaging five strikeouts per game. She has pitched seven innings or more in five different games, including a recent nine inning thriller against Veterans.
Not to be over shadowed by the loss was the celebration of Thomas County Central’s seniors. Kaleigh Goodin, who played left field against Lowndes, and center fielder Kennedy Warren were honored as the Lady Jackets only seniors, complete with blue and gold balloons along the entry way to the softball field and posters all about the girls featuring old pictures of them and a sign saying, “We love our seniors”.
“They’re both just phenomenal young women,” said Central head softball coach Robyn Trammell. “They have grown up so much in the past seven years that they’ve been a part of the program and watching them grow up with every season has just been so much fun. They’re both in our starting lineup this year and are both really contributing well at the plate and in the field. They’re level headed, they’re always consistent, they show up. I mean, these two girls didn’t miss one summer of workouts and that’s how much the program and their senior year meant to them.”
