THOMASVILLE — The Thomasville Lady Bulldogs volleyball team snagged their first two wins of the season on Thursday night. After a rough stretch to open their 2024 campaign, Thomasville looked dominant, defeating both Stewart County and Randolph-Clay in two sets.
“I have really pushed my players to a higher level to start our season by playing many 5 and 6A teams. We have competed with each one of them,” said Thomasville head coach Jackie King on her teams tough opening stretch. “Last night was our first experience with 1A. Our focus was to continue to play the same level that we have been playing and the girls achieved that.”
Thomasville were consistent in the first game over Stewart, winning the first set 25-10 and the second 25-9. The Lady Bulldogs were completely dominant over Randolph-Clay, winning set one 25-5 and winning the second set an astonishing 25-1.
Setters Adalee King and Hannah Hawkins were phenomenal in the Lady Bulldogs last set against Randolph-Clay. King secured 16 straight points before Hawkins took her place, severing seven straight points. Anna Shokat finished off the game with an ace. Kamryn Shokat led the Lady Bulldogs in kills in both games with eight and the Queens of the Court were Elle McCollum, for “improving with her consistent serves and offense” and new addition Kennedy Brooks.
“Brooks adds a positive energy and knowledge of the game that supports our team,” said King.
The Lady Bulldogs will host their next three contests starting with Highland Christian Academy on Sept. 3 followed by Thomas County Central on Sept. 5 and Cook on Sept. 10.
“We are ready to take on Area one all the way and compete in every last match we have,” King said.
