ST. PAUL — Keegan Kuball, a junior at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, won the state championship at 285 pounds at Saturday’s Class A wrestling tournament at Xcel Energy Center.
Kuball won a 3-1 decision in the semifinals before winning his final match 7-2.
Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Area, which finished fifth in the team tournament Thursday, picked up a pair of silver medals in the individual tournament.
Parker Kamm won a 4-2 decision in his semifinal match but lost 10-0 in the finals at 133. Nick Slater also placed second at 189. After winning by fall in the semifinals, he lost a 6-5 decision in the finals.
LCWMA’s Ryan Palmer lost in the semifinals, but he bounced back to finish third, winning 5-0 in his final match. Teammate Zach Palmer placed fifth after winning 5-1 in the consolation match at 139.
St. Clair/Loyola’s Jacob Schimek was also the runner-up at 215. He won a 5-3 decision in the semifinals before losing 4-3 in the championship match.
Carson Petry of WEM/JWP won his first two wrestleback matches, 3-1 and 11-9, before losing in the third-place match.
Mankato East’s Jackson Stensrud lost his first match in the Class AA wrestlebacks Saturday morning, finishing the tournament with a 1-2 record at 107 pounds.
