The current crop of Culinary Arts students at Orleans / Niagara BOCES’ Niagara Career and Technical Education Center have upheld an annual giving tradition by preparing part of the Thanksgiving dinner spread that will be served at the Salvation Army of Lockport on Thursday.
The students roasted 20 turkeys and made 15 trays of stuffing, and gravy, for the sit-down dinner that’s being served in the dining room at the Lockport citadel, 50 Cottage St., between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. All are welcome; the meal is free of charge.
Teachers Caitlin Kucharski and Lisa Cook made giving back a class lesson.
“The event of preparing Thanksgiving dinner for others in our community has been passed down to us by previous teachers,” Kucharski said. “The students enjoy this event because they know we are going to put smiles on people’s faces for Thanksgiving.”
The students also roasted 25 turkeys for Niagara center teacher Scott Brauer’s church community’s Thanksgiving celebration, and they’ve been busy preparing 200 pies for the annual Culinary Arts pie sale that’s a fundraiser for the class.
“It’s been one busy month, but it’s a month of giving and shows students responsibility and gratitude thanks to all their hard work,” Kucharski said.
