Keegan Bradley was just as shocked as anyone when Zach Johnson told him he’d been selected as the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup captain on Monday.
Once Bradley composed himself, he realized he had his own phone call to make.
It was to Tiger Woods.
“I certainly need his input,” he said.
But, after getting Woods’ seal of approval, Bradley could become the first U.S. Ryder Cup playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963 if he were to qualify. Whether he plays or not, Bradley’s captaincy is already tied to Palmer. At 38 years old, Bradley is the youngest U.S. captain since a 34-year-old Palmer led the team in ’63.
It was just last year that Bradley and his wife, Jillian, bought a house in Newburyport. Originally from Woodstock, Vermont, Bradley moved to Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 2001 as his father, Mark, was the club professional at Portsmouth Country Club. He then famously led Hopkinton High School to a State Championship in 2003.
Both Bradley’s mother and sister also live in Newburyport.
Bradley has long been vocal about his love for New England since breaking onto the PGA Tour, and strongly supports all four major Boston professional sports teams.
