MOULTRIE – The Moultrie YMCA Gymnastics team competed recently in That Sea Turtle Meet in Panama City Beach, Fla.
The meet was held at the Edgewater Beach Resort Convention Center and hosted by Destination Meets.
Joselyn Juarez broke an MG Record and there were 18 personal bests. This was the team’s second time competing at this meet and the girls seemed to do well.
The Xcel Silver team was in the second session on Saturday. They were led by Katie Poblete Morris in age Group 3. She placed 7th in the All Around with a score of 36.775. She placed 4th on vault, 9.125 and 2nd on floor, 9.3.
Olivia Eubanks, age Group 3, placed 8th in the AA with a score of 36.75. She placed 2nd on vault, 9.35 and a personal best on beam, 9.325.
Katie Goble, age Group 1, placed 12th in the AA with a score of 34.825. She scored a 9.15 on beam.
Miller, age Group 2, placed 9th in the AA with a score of 35.15. She placed 5th on vault with a score of 9.025.
Whitley Bozeman, age Group 4, placed 10th in the AA with a score of 35.45. She had a personal best on vault with a score of 9.1.
Jaceleigh Smithwick, age Group 5, placed 6th in the AA with a score of 35.925. She placed 4th on vault, 9.175 and tied for 7th on floor, 8.85.
Alyssa Howell, age Group 5, placed 7th in the AA with a score of 35.9. She tied for 3rd on bars, 9.4 and tied for 4th on beam, 9.3.
Brantlee Majors, age Group 5, tied for 11th place in the AA with a score of 35.1. She tied for 5th on vault, 8.95 and 7th on beam, 9.25 (personal best).
Melanie Lopez, age Group 5, placed 13th in the AA with a score of 34.85. She placed 5th on bars with a score of 9.375.
Allegra Porteus, age Group 6, placed 12th in the AA with a score of 34.6. She scored an 8.85 on vault and bars.
Naomi De La Cruz, age Group 7, placed 9th in the AA with a score of 36.25. She placed 6th on bars, 9.05 and 7th on beam, 9.45 (personal best).
“The girls had a great season and we are already looking forward to next year!” said Coaches Katheryn Eubanks and Haley Goble.
The Level 6 Team was in the third session on Saturday.
They were led by Eliza Jane Reagan in age Group 1. She placed 8th in the AA with a score of 35.425. She tied for 5th on vault, 9.05 and 7th on beam, 8.85.
Kayla Scroggins, age Group 3, placed 13th in the AA with a score of 34.675. She placed 7th on vault, 9.125 and had a personal best on beam with a score of 9.0.
Nataleigh Bryant, age Group 2, placed 13th in the AA with a score of 33.975. She scored a 9.1 on vault and a 9.025 on floor.
“The girls have been working hard on running and blocking on vault this season,” said coach Dawn Harvell. “We have also been working on not stopping during bar routines and connecting our skills. Every meet I’m seeing improvement. We will be spending the next two weeks on perfecting our skills to go to state. Looking forward to this meet because it always seems like their best meet of the season.”
The Level 4s competed in the first session on Sunday morning. They were led by Joselyn Juarez, age Group 2, who placed 2nd in the AA with a score of 36.4 (MG Record and personal best). She placed 4th on vault, 8.8, tied for 6th on bars, 9.0 (personal best), 2nd on beam, 9.45 (personal best) and 1st on floor, 9.15.
Kenya Poblete Morris, age Group 2, placed 5th in the AA with a score of 35.975. She placed 3rd on vault, 8.85, 4th on beam, 9.325 (personal best), and 5th on floor, 8.95.
Lylah Anderson was unable to attend due to a death in her family. Her teammates really missed her.
“These girls have really shown a lot of improvement throughout this season. Every meet I have seen them get stronger and tighter. I’m expecting them to go far in the program” said Coach Dawn Harvell.
The Xcel Gold team competed in the second session on Sunday. They were led by Raley Merritt, age Group 6, who placed 8th in the AA with a score of 35.75. She placed 4th on vault, 9.075 and 5th on bars, 9.25.
Julianne Carson, age Group 2, placed 12th in the AA with a score of 34.225. She placed 7th on bars, 9.15 (personal best) and 7th on floor, 8.925.
Kinsley Kelley, age Group 3, placed 12th in the AA with a score of 32.825. She had a personal best on beam with a score of 8.85.
“I am proud of the hard work these girls have put in and we are looking forward to state in a few weeks,” said Coach Becky Reagan. The Xcel Bronze team was in the third and final session on Sunday. The girls placed 3rd with a team score of 111.75. This gave them an average score of 9.3 per event.
They were led by Sofia Molina, age Group 3, who placed 3rd in the AA with a score of 37.95 (personal best). She placed 2nd on vault, 9.525 (personal best), tied for 1st on bars, 9.45, 3rd on beam, 9.475 (personal best), and 3rd on floor, 9.5.
Libby Parish, age Group 4, placed 1st in the AA with a score of 37.55. She tied for 2nd on vault, 9.2, 5th on bars, 9.25, 1st on beam, 9.625, and tied for 2nd on floor, 9.475.
Leila Garner, age Group 1, placed 4th in the AA with a score of 36.225. She placed 3rd on vault, 9.3 (personal best), 6th on beam, 9.15 and 5th on floor, 9.0.
Evelyn Strayer, age Group 3, placed 10th in the AA with a score of 35.475 (personal best). She placed 4th on vault, 9.225 (personal best) and had a personal best on beam with a score of 9.1.
“This was their final meet of the season and we are beyond proud of the growth these girls have made this year,” said Coaches Jeremy Merritt and Alex Garner.
