Incumbent Dalton Board of Education member John Tulley Johnson was reelected following Tuesday’s runoff election.
Data from the Whitfield County Board of Elections indicate that Johnson bested challenger Laura Orr by a 481 to 430 vote margin.
“Thank you for reelecting me to my seat on the school board,” Johnson stated in an email. “I am humbled by your continued support and trust and I am extremely grateful. I am excited and eager to continue serving as the bridge between our community and our school board.”
911 total votes were cast in the runoff. With 17,520 eligible voters in the city, the overall turnout comes in at 5.2%.
Neither Johnson or Orr could garner a majority of votes in the November general election. That three-candidate race also included contender Dr. Pablo Perez.
Per the Whitfield County Board of Elections, 699 ballots were cast on Dec. 5. Another 180 votes were cast during an advance voting period; another 32 votes came in the form of absentee ballots.
The elections office indicates there are no pending provisional ballots.
“I am passionate about educating all students and I am dedicated to faithfully support and act on behalf of what is best for all students as I fulfill my honored duties on the school board,” Johnson stated. “With everyone’s support, involvement and investment, we can all do our part in successfully educating every student, so please get involved in the schools, ask questions, share insights and attend school board meetings often.”
