Free program aims to prevent falls
Falls are common and costly, especially among Americans aged 65 and older. To help local residents avoid falls and related injuries, VINE is offering “Stepping On” an evidence-based program.
Free classes will be 12:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 18-Oct. 30 at VINE Adult Community Center.
Participants will learn how to identify and remove or avoid fall hazards in the home and outside, and how vision, hearing, medication and footwear affect their risk of falling. Participants will learn simple strength and balance exercises and how to get back up properly if a fall does occur.
For more information or to register, call Jen Wunderlich, VINE’s health and fitness center manager, at (507) 386-5588.
City seeking input on strategic plan
The city of Mankato is inviting the public to provide feedback on its strategic plan for guiding city services for the next five years.
The plan, developed with input from numerous community members over the past year, focuses on six key areas:
• Sustainable infrastructure
• Housing
• Community connection
• Community safety
• Economy
• Adaptive organization.
Before presenting the plan for City Council approval and implementation, the city seeks to ensure the plan reflects the community’s needs and expectations.
After reviewing a draft of the plan at mankatomn.gov, participants may complete an online survey.
Feedback should be submitted by Wednesday.
Bach Society series includes local show
Bach Society of Minnesota opens its 93rd season this week 7 p.m. Wednesday with a performance in Trinity Chapel on the campus of Bethany Lutheran College.
Along with the Mankato event, concerts are planned in Winona and St. Paul.
The group’s presentation “Double Concerto Extravaganza” will feature works by some of the greatest composers of the Baroque era. While most concertos are performed by a single soloist accompanied by an orchestra, this performance stands out with two soloists per concerto and three soloists for Bach’s famous 5th Brandenburg Concerto.
Ticket prices for the Mankato concert range from $5-$25. To order tickets online, go to:
