For perhaps the first time this century, both the Amesbury boys and girls basketball teams are still undefeated three games into a season. MaxPrep records date back to 2005-06, and during that 19-year stretch, it was a feat both programs hadn’t been able to accomplish at the same time.
That is, until now.
Over the weekend, the Amesbury boys rolled past visiting Amesbury for a 73-46 win. Meanwhile for the girls, the Redhawks went on the road and stifled the Vikings defensively, cruising to a 45-26 victory.
Parker DeLong once again starred for the boys, as the junior guard poured in 21 points on three 3s. Justin Dube wasn’t too far behind with 13 points, both Trey Sullivan and Noah Snyder added 7, and Ryan Baker came off the bench and drained a pair of 3s.
Meanwhile for the Amesbury girls, freshman Olivia McKay continued the breakout start to her high school career. After scoring 15 points over the team’s opening two games, she drained two 3s, went 9-of-10 from the free throw line and finished with 17 points in the victory. Ellison Talbot led the Redhawks with 18 points, and both Shelby Massey and Ellie Marden chipped in 4.
For the Triton boys, Harrison Huynh had a team-high 11 points and Mateus Pinto was also in double figures with 10. The Viking girls were led by Mia Dupuis hitting two 3s and finishing with 10 points.
NEWBURYPORT: Both boys and girls beat Ipswich
Once again, everybody got into the action for the Newburyport boys basketball team on Friday night.
A total of 12 of the 15 athletes on the roster scored at least one point, and the Clippers stayed perfect after rolling past Ipswich, 74-36. Carson Gretz led the way with 16 points, Zayd Leanna chipped in 15 and Cal Atherton was also in double figures with 11. Big man Ben Cormier had 8 points for the second straight game, and Greg Guckenburg came off the bench and drained a pair of 3s.
Newburyport (2-0) will now get a massive spike in competition when it plays in the Commonwealth Motors Christimas Classic this upcoming weekend.
Meanwhile, the Newburyport girls had a similarly easy win over Ipswich, cruising 56-15. Olivia Foley was unstoppable in the post with 18 points, and both Clara Thompson and Ava Bailey added 10.
GEORGETOWN: Boys open game on 21-0 run
This one was over in a hurry.
The Georgetown boys basketball team once again hounded on the defensive end of the floor, and jumped out to a 21-0 lead to open Friday’s eventual win over Essex Tech, 74-41. It was a lopsided 48-8 score at halftime, and the Royals (2-0) were able to empty the bench the entire second half.
All 13 athletes who saw playing time recorded a point, and the overall scoring for Georgetown was rather balanced. Jalen Andujar led the way with 11 points, Brendan Loewen had 9, and both Irvin Zapata and Brayan Perez chipped in 7.
