BEVERLY — Harborlight Montessori has announced that Head of School Paul Horovitz will retire effective July 1 after leading the school for 10 years.
Under his leadership, the school expanded its innovative educational programs, enhanced its 5-acre campus on Essex Street in Beverly, and saw enrollment grow, according to a school announcement.
“I have been privileged to be part of this exciting educational community,” Horovitz said. “The dedication of our faculty, the enthusiasm of our students, and the engagement of our community have made these 10 years incredibly rewarding. I look forward to watching the school continue to thrive and uphold its commitment to excellence.”
Harborlight Montessori opened in 1973.
The school offers a comprehensive Montessori education from infant through middle school and serves as a lab school for Montessori Institute-New England.
Before Harborlight, Horovitz led Litchfield Montessori School in Connecticut, Antilles School in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and The Buckley School in California.
Eileen Caruso, head of the board of trustees and a parent of two Harborlight Montessori students, called Horovitz a “transformative leader for Harborlight Montessori.”
“His dedication to our mission and his innovative spirit have left an indelible mark on our community,” she said. “We are incredibly grateful for his 10 years of service.”
Harborlight announced that Michael Bowler, former assistant head of school at Fayerweather Street School in Cambridge, will become the new Head of School in July.
