GEORGETOWN — The Georgetown Theatre Workshop recently announced its 50th anniversary season, marking half a century of enriching the local community with theatrical production.
Founded in 1974 by a small group of local residents, GTW has evolved into a thriving multi-generational theater group that invites participants of all ages, backgrounds, and talents to join in the creativity and fun of live theater.
The celebration begins with a 50th anniversary benefit bash on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 6:30 to 10 p.m., at the Byfield Community Arts Center. This special event will honor the organization’s accomplishments, share cherished memories, and raise crucial funds to support the group’s future endeavors. As a fully volunteer-led non-profit organization, GTW relies on the support of the community to continue its mission.
“For fifty years, Georgetown Theatre Workshop has been woven into the cultural fabric of Georgetown,” said Mary-Liz Murray, GTW president. “As we launch our 50th anniversary season, we are excited to invite our audience to join us in celebrating our rich history and vibrant future with an array of special performances and events. This milestone season is a testament to the power of community theater in inspiring collaboration, fostering empathy, and creating shared experiences.”
Founding member Sue Clohecy said GTW began as a small creative outlet for a group of friends.
“And now it’s grown to become a beloved part of our community. We are proud of what we’ve done over the years and look forward to many more years of bringing quality theater to Georgetown,” Clohecy said.
This season promises to be one of the most dynamic and ambitious in GTW’s history, featuring:
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie — Debuting in November, this beloved classic invites audiences to experience the timeless story of adventure, imagination, and the magic of live theater.
Murder in the Studio — A trio of Agatha Christie mystery radio plays will intrigue and entertain in March 2025, showcasing Christie’s iconic charm and memorable characters.
A Comedy to Close the Season — The season will conclude with a romp of a comedy, to be announced delivering a raucous and fun-filled performance for all.
