ALBA — A Gaylord man died in a head-on collision with a commercial truck on Alba Highway, according to Michigan State Police.
The 24-year-old man, driving an SUV, crossed the centerline and hit a commercial box truck. A state trooper was on patrol and behind the box truck at 6:19 a.m. Wednesday when the crash occurred.
The Gaylord man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, did not brake prior to the accident, troopers said. The truck driver, a 54-year-old man from Atlanta, did try to slow down, they said.
The Atlanta man refused medical treatment, but was transported him to a local hospital to be evaluated and drug-tested per his employer’s company policy, according to state police.
Troopers were assisted by deputies from the Antrim and Otsego county sheriff’s offices, officers from the Mancelona and Gaylord police departments, Star Township Fire Department, Mancelona Fire Department, and Star Township EMS.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.
