VALDOSTA — The price of gasoline remained virtually unchanged in South Georgia over the past week.
The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Valdosta Thursday was $3.21, unmoved from seven days earlier, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
The lowest fuel price reported in the Azalea City Thursday was $2.97 per gallon at a store on Norman Drive, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com. In Tifton, the lowest price reported that day was $3.07 per gallon at a pair of stores, one on Tift Avenue North and the other on U.S. Hwy. 82 W.
Valdosta and Athens were tied for the sixth-most expensive average gas price Thursday among the 15 Georgia markets surveyed by the auto club: below Savannah, Macon, Hinesville, Brunswick and Atlanta but above Warner Robins, Rome, Gainesville, Dalton, Columbus, Catoosa, Augusta and Albany.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline Thursday was $3.44 per gallon, down two cents over a week, while Georgia’s average of $3.25 per gallon was unchanged in that period, AAA said.
“Summer is wrapping up soon, and so far, gas prices have barely wobbled,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “But we still have a long way to go with hurricane season, so it’s too soon to declare that pump prices have started their usual autumn swoon.”
