ELKINS, W.Va. — Mason Salvadge scored the go-ahead goal, and Frostburg State held on despite being down to 10 men to upset No. 20 Davis & Elkins, 3-2, on Sunday.
The win is Frostburg State’s first over a ranked opponent since joining Division 2.
Salvadge, an Allegany grad, gave Frostburg a 3-2 lead in the 65th minute off an assist from Mateo Cuadros.
Cuadros was shown a second yellow card two minutes later, but the Bobcats (4-1) hung in there for the upset victory. Keeper Jan Foret made two saves for Frostburg.
Davis & Elkins scored the game’s first goal in the sixth minute when Modou Faye found the back of the goal assisted by Johan Magana.
Frostburg State scored the next two to race into halftime with a 2-1 lead. Alex Retzos notched the equalizer unassisted in the 19th minute, and Carlos Quintero Rivas scored unassisted in the 43rd minute.
Magana and Faye traded placed for D&E’s equalizer, with Magana scoring off a Faye assist, but Salvadge had the answer to power Frostburg State to the win.
