CHEBOYGAN — Ever since an enormous fire and roof collapse in September, the Cheboygan Tissue Depot has sat in disrepair.
Now, a developer is looking to completely redesign the area into housing, hotels and more.
Developer Bob Pulte said he’s hoping the project will be, “a point of pride as a reinvented gateway to the Cheboygan community.”
But the proposed $50 million development is still in its early stages.
The landlord says the property still needs to be purchased. Then the project would need approval from the local government and money from various grants.
The site also sits on a hazardous hydroelectric dam. Plans to repair it are in the works but will involve collaboration with state regulators.
More on this story as it develops.
