St. John’s Prep 42, Attleboro 0: The top seeded Eagles (8-1) took care of business in the opening round of the Division 1 playoffs, getting three touchdown runs as well as a 2-point conversion rush from sophomore Jordan Toribio to win going away at Glatz Field.
Freshman quarterback Chris Vargas added a pair of touchdown tosses to classmate Riley Selvais and senior captain Merrick Barlow. Another senior, Jeff Quigley, ran for a touchdown as well, and Langdon Laws kicked four PATs.
Marblehead 42, Norwood 6: Winning their seventh straight contest, the Magicians (7-2) got little resistance from the visiting Mustangs, scoring 21 points in each half while allowing single-digit points for the seventh straight week. This Division 4 first round triumph allows them to advance to the quarterfinals next week at Grafton.
Foxborough 27, Danvers 0: The Falcons (3-6) battled the defending state champions on the road in this Division 5 first round playoff game, but were ultimately unable to dent the scoreboard.
Swampscott 28, Bay Path 14: Down by a point at halftime (14-13), the Big Blue held the unbeaten visitors off the scoreboard the rest of the way while scoring three times to take home a Division 6 playoff victory at Blocksidge Field. Henry Beuttler returned a fumble 89 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, then added a 67-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to help his team pull away. Quarterback John von Barta hooked up with Nakeylan Davis for a 39-yard touchdown pass, then later scrambled for a 5-yard score of his own. Jay Domelowicz capped the scoring for Swampscott (7-2) by recording a fourth quarter safety.
Beverly 41, Belmont 6: The Panthers emphatically snapped a seven-game losing streak by blowing out the Marauders on the road in a non-playoff encounter. Junior Sean Costa had a pair of touchdown runs for the Orange-and-Black, while Greg White, Jayden Santos and Charlie Frost also ran for scores. In addition, senior Ray Kwiatek returned a kickoff return for another score for Beverly (2-7), which raced out to a 34-0 halftime lead and never looked back.
Ipswich 42, Chelsea 28: Scoring 30 points in the second half allowed the Tigers (2-7) to pick up their second victory of the season in a non-playoff matchup at Jack Welch Stadium.
