BOYS BASKETBALL
Peabody 66, KIPP 53: The Tanners held a 20-point lead in the second half before pulling away for their sixth straight victory. Jariel Tolentino had a big night by scoring 24 points for the winners along with 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists. He was aided by freshman Thad Broughton’s 20-point, 7-rebound, 4-assist effort and another 15 points and four assists from teammate Mark Mendonca. Inside presence Jimmy Festa added 11 boards for Peabody (now 6-3).
Triton 63, Ipswich 60 (OT): A thrilling contest that saw the two teams separated by one point at halftime and tied after three quarters needed extra time, where the visiting Vikings ultimately triumphed after hitting a pair of free throws with 4.8 seconds remaining. Rex Satter scored 20 of his game-high 26 points in the second half and OT, while James Norris (13 points) scored the game-tying bucket in the waning seconds to send it to an extra frame. Trevor Manning had his best game of his IHS career as well, scoring 15 points with seven steals.
Hamilton-Wenham 69, Pentucket 42: The Generals (4-3) canned eight triples in the first half to jump ahead and then held their distance. Caden Schrock had 15 points with nine rebounds while A.B. Labell did a little of everything with eight points, nine boards, seven assists and eight steals. Liam O’Bannon scored a dozen in the victory as well.
Manchester Essex 67, Essex Tech 30: Hanging tough for as long as they could, the Hawks couldn’t keep up with the Hornets offensively and dropped to 1-5 on the season.
Xaverian 56, St. John’s Prep 31: Marcus Magliore scored six points and Jhoan Rodriguez had a three-pointer among his five points in a Catholic Conference road setback for the Eagles (now 1-7). Ten different players scored for St. John’s Prep, with Brody Duncan, Gio Rodriguez and Sami Welsh all producing four points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Gloucester 49, Beverly 35: Infinity Burns grabbed 15 rebounds and scored nine points for Beverly while Anna Michaud had nine rebounds and three points for the Orange-and-Black, who fell to 2-5 with the road loss. Vivian Carter and Anna Fertonani both scored seven points for the Panthers as well.
Covenant Christian 40, Landmark 33: Bella DeOliveira and Julia Ray each had nine points as all seven players scored for CCA in its victory. Anne Hammond added eight points for the winners and Novalee Jones hit a pair of three-pointers.
Pentucket 59, Hamilton-Wenham 22: Falling victim to a 20-4 third quarter by the hosts (who hit 8 three-pointers), the Generals fell to 5-3 after their second straight setback. Amelia Crowe finished as the game’s high scorer for H-W, winding up with 17 points.
Manchester Essex 33, Essex Tech 31: Leading most of the contest, the Hawks (2-5) couldn’t hang on as the host Hornets rallied over the final eight minutes by scoring 18 points for the victory. Thais Dos Santos paced Essex Tech with 12 points, with Mia Martinez adding eight points and Nicole Mwaura (3 points) playing excellent defensively.
Triton 39, Ipswich 14: The Tigers were upended on the road against their Cape Ann League rivals, falling to 0-7 on the season.
Marblehead 30, Swampscott 29: Maddie Forbes stole an inbounds pass with two seconds to play and put home a layup to give the Magicians a thrilling win on Thursday night. Tessa Andriano scored nine points for Marblehead and Ramona Gillett had a strong second half, with Olivia Goldwater also playing well.
GYMNASTICS
Beverly 130.8, Salem 104.3: Carli Moran was first all-around (36.55) after finishing first on vault (9.2) bars (9.2) and beam (8.75). Lily Pelletier also scored 30.4 all-around after notching an 8.2 on both floor and beam while Julia Guanci scored 8.35 on vault and 7.75 on floor. Olivia Durand added 8.3 on vault with a 7.2 on bars and Nina Orlando got an 8.05 on beam.
Salem was led by Barbara Rowley (8.15 on vault), Emily Mercer (7.3 on beam, 7.0 on floor) and Gabby Falchek (7.65 on beam, 7.2 on floor).
SWIMMING
Marblehead 94, Masconomet 84: Junior Cale Nelson had a state qualifying time in the 200 individual medley of 2:08.06 to highlight the Friday night win for the Magicians at the Bennett Center pool in Wenham.
Masconomet 103, Danvers 81: In a Thursday night setback, the Falcons got strong first place performances from sophomore Agnes Osminkin (200 free), eighth grader Max Scott (200-IM), senior Darius Chung (50 free) and double winner Zach Cotter (100 back and 100 free).
BOYS TRACK
Marblehead beats three foes: Sweeping a Northeastern Conference quad-meet, the Magicians earned victories over Masconomet (45-41), Salem (75-11), and host Gloucester (77.5-8.5) on Thursday. First place finishes by Jacob Bobowski in the dash (6.72 seconds), Clark Roszell in the high jump (5-8), Jacob Szalewicz in the 1000 (2:47.47), Henrik Adams in the mile (4:52.34), and Nate Assa in the 2-mile (10:18.48) paved the way.
Masco earns two wins: The Chieftains, who bested both Salem (55-14) and host Gloucester (57-28), had four individual winners in Colin Moran in 55 hurdles (8.37), Adam Staffier in the 300 (38.74), Tyson Arnold in the 600 (1:31.21) and Arbor Halilaj in the shot put (38-0 1/4). In addition, Halilaj, Timmy Lull, Nicco Cefalo and Staffier won the 4×400 relay in 3:45.85.
Jules, Clark earn points for Salem: At the same event, the Witches got third place showings from Guywintz Jules in the 600 (1:40.46) and Shakim Clark in the 55 hurdles (8.91), as well as its 4×400 relay team of Oscar Fernandez, Jabrian Maria, Eric Almonor and Jules (4:08.72).
GIRLS TRACK
Marblehead wins three: The Magicians were in fine form, getting a pair of first place finishes from Paige Tredwell in taking down Masconomet (48-38), Gloucester (77-9) and Salem (86-0). Tredwell, a senior, was victorious in both the high jump (5-0) and hurdles (9.01). Teammates Ava Machado (dash, 7.47), Marri O’Connell (mile, 5:29.64), and the 4×400 relay team of Machado, O’Connell, Sarah Munroe and Margaret Miller (4:27.79).
Masconomet takes two of three: The Chieftains were victorious against their other two opponents Thursday, blanking both Gloucester and Salem. First place finishes came from Piper Testa (300, 45.31), Ava Gauvain (600, 1:56.89), Savannah Stevens (1000, 3:25.35) and Madison Gibeau-Schmitt (13:03.14).
GIRLS HOCKEY
Holderness 5, Pingree 2: Captains Jaselle Yepes and Juju Giordano took care of the scoring for the Highlanders and Addi Booth played a strong all-around game.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
William Smith 4, Salem State 0: A trio of second period goals sunk the Vikings (4-10), who managed just 14 shots on net in a road defeat.
