MANKATO — Several area residents recently have reported scam calls requesting electronic transfers of money, Blue Earth County Sheriff Capt. Paul Barta stated in a press release Tuesday.
The calls appear to be coming from the sheriff’s department; however, they are being made by people falsely claiming to be employees of the sheriff’s office.
Law enforcement staff do not solicit electronic transfers of money by phone or request gift cards, Barta said.
He warned that the calls are made with new technology that alters a phone’s caller ID.
Residents who have suffered a financial loss as a result of this scam should call “911” for assistance.
