— Fort Hill got a safety on the first play and never looked back, piling up 30 first-quarter points and trouncing Smithsburg, 61-6, on Friday evening.
After Mason Bennett and Christian Riley were in on a safety on the first offensive play of the game, Carson Bender extended Fort Hill’s lead to 9-0 on a 27-yard carry. Bobby Brauer booted the first of eight successful point-after tries.
Jabril Daniels tacked on two more scores in the opening frame on runs of 1 and 15 yards before Tristan Ross made it 30-0 after one on an 11-yard run.
Daniels scored his third and final touchdown of the night on a 53-yard scamper early in the second. The senior tailback finished with 112 yards on only eight carries.
The Sentinels’ next two scores came on punt returns of 57 yards by Gamil Daniels and 50 yards by Chase Lamb.
Braelyn Younger capped off the first-half scoring with a 40-yard run, finishing with three carries for 52 yards.
Holding a 58-0 halftime lead, the Sentinels scored six offensive touchdowns on 17 plays.
Brauer capped off the Fort Hill scoring with a 22-yard field goal in the third quarter.
The Leopards’ touchdown came in the fourth on a 10-yard pass from Tyler Ward to Chase Hill. The two-point run was stuffed.
With Jabril Daniels leading the way offensively, Ross added 26 yards on two carries and a 3-yard catch from Noah House, who went 2 of 3 for 25 yards. Jeremiah Babo hauled in a 22-yard pass.
Defensively, the Sentinels recovered a fumble and had interceptions by House and Keiyn Steinmetz.
Fort Hill (6-2) hosts Allegany (4-4) at Homecoming on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., riding a three-game win streak where it has outscored opponents 169-9.
Keyser 42, Moorefield 35
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Moorefield was one yard from victory in the final two minutes. Four plays later, Keyser was the winner.
Jake Anderson recovered a Yellow Jacket fumble. After a pair of quarterback sneaks, Keyser’s Dominik Crawford raced 94 yards for a touchdown.
Crawford, a freshman, ended with 160 yards on 12 carries, caught a 27-yard pass for a touchdown and recovered an onside kick.
Moorefield (3-5) jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the second quarter behind touchdown runs by Oliver Crites from 15 and one yards and Riley Pillus on a three-yard burst.
Keyser (4-4) tied it in a flash after an 87-yard kick return for a score by Grayson Lambka, a Crawford fumble recovery on the ensuring kickoff and a 14-yard touchdown run by Mikey Mongold.
The teams traded touchdowns until Crawford’s winning score. Keyser’s Brafford threw a score to Crawford and Cole Holland had a five-yard tote. Moorefield’s Diego Taylor ran for a 25-yard TD and Crites tallied his third on a five-yard carry.
Brafford accounted for Keyser’s opening score, a 17-yard rush.
Keyser hosts Mountain Ridge (4-4) on Friday. Moorefield is at Pendleton County (6-2).
Washington 38, No. 5 Hampshire 21
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — No. 5 Hampshire was outscored 17-0 after halftime Friday to have its three-game winning streak snapped.
Washington (5-3) took the lead for good on Michael Thompson’s 11-yard rush in the third quarter. Hampshire fell to 5-4.
Thompson was one of two Patriots to go over 100 yards on the ground. He ran for 112 and two scores on 16 carries, and he completed 10 of 15 passes for 97 yards, though he did throw an interception to Colson Kinser.
Casey Allen had 10 carries for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
Hampshire quarterback Landon Eversole connected on 14 of 27 passes for 272 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. His 64-yard completion to Andrew Loy gave the Trojans a 21-14 lead in the second quarter.
Eversole tossed a 20-yard touchdown to Liam Nichols for the game’s first score. Roscoe Dean found the end zone on a two-yard rush in the second period.
Loy caught two passes for 70 yards, Nichols had two receptions for 67 yards, Wyatt Swanger hauled in two passes for 62 yards and Vinny Greear made five grabs for 58 yards.
Bryson Richardson was 3 for 3 on PATs.
Hampshire has a bye next week and will be back in action at home against Tucker County (8-0) to close out the season.
Petersburg 37, James Monroe 14
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Payton Metheny passed for three touchdowns and Kaleb Kuhn returned an interception 102 yards for another score to lead Petersburg over visiting James Monroe on Friday.
Metheny’s TDs covered 13, 24 and 16 yards as he completed 17 of 33 attempts for 198 yards. He also threw two interceptions.
Kuhn’s TD receptions were for 13 and 16 yards, and his pick-six sealed the victory. He had seven receptions for 90 yards to lead all Viking receivers.
Peyton Tingler had one reception for a 24-yard touchdown, Trace Rohrbaugh had a five-yard rushing score and Alex Mendez kicked a 24-yard field goal.
The Vikings (5-3) host undefeated Tucker County (8-0) on Friday at 7 p.m.
