Who do I love this weekend in the NFL?
Check out the sick lid (see attached) I picked up this week at “Fanatics.com,” for your answer.
That’s right. I am all-in with one Patrick Mahomes II and the Kansas City Chiefs, whom I expect to reach their second straight Super Bowl, fourth in the last five years.
Forget the points (at last check, the Baltimore Ravens were -4 on Draftkings over the weekend), take the healthy (+164) money line with the Chiefs this weekend.
Here are five quick reasons:
1. Experience – It’s a go-to thought for me here, stolen from of all places professional wrestling, but to be the man, you have to beat the man.
The Chiefs have been to six straight AFC title games, winning three of the first five. Kansas City is battle-tested, weather and situation proof and won’t shy away from any situation that presents itself.
2. Chris Jones – Folks talk about the impact defenders on the Baltimore side – and they are correct – but Jones is a game-wrecking, tone-setter on the KC side. Guaranteed, he impacts bigtime on Sunday.
3. Rashee Rice – Don’t look now but the Kansas City receivers – once unproven and unreliable – have grown up before our very eyes, especially the rookie second-round pick. Rice has caught 118 balls and counting, with eight TDs.
4. Patrick Queen – Baltimore’s fourth-year linebacker is a liability, especially in the pass coverage game. I see Andy Reid exploiting this guy – early and often.
5. Patrick Mahomes II – He is the dirtiest player in the game right now – dirty in the highest of praise kind of sense.
I feel bad for Lamar Jackson. He’s about to be lumped in as Mahomes’ understudy, the way Peyton Manning was to Tom Brady. It’s not fair. But it’s just the way life works.
San Francisco 49ers, -7.5, vs. Detroit Lions
I don’t feel as strongly on this play, especially considering the way the Niners let me down last weekend.
Still, there is no way Dan Campbell is a Super Bowl coach. No. Way.
Niners got their warning shot over the bow a week ago. Time for a dominating effort.
