NORTH ANDOVER — Firefighters and divers from numerous communities were searching the Merrimack River after a small plane crashed near a riverbank around 2:30 p.m.
At least one person was believed to be aboard the plane.
The person’s condition remained unclear as of 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Firefighters from North Andover, Lawrence and Methuen worked in the water and on riverbanks after the crash was reported.
The Beverly Fire Department dive team was asked to respond around 3 p.m.
A command post for first responders was set up on Riverview Street in North Andover.
