Candidates continue to file paperwork for 2024’s local elections in Whitfield County.
No less than four Republican challengers for sheriff have filed declarations of intent to accept campaign contributions.
Candidate Darren Pierce filed forms with the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission on Jan. 8.
Candidate Vernon Glenn Tate followed with a submission on Jan. 11. Candidate Travis Presley filed with the commission on Jan. 17, while candidate Francisco “Frank” Torres filed on Feb. 6.
Incumbent Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood filed a declaration of intent to accept campaign contributions on Jan. 30.
As of Feb. 20, Chitwood is the lone sheriff candidate affiliated with the Democratic Party to enter the Whitfield County race.
No less than three candidates for Whitfield County coroner have filed declarations of intent for the 2024 election cycle so far.
Incumbent Clyde McDaniel, a Republican, filed paperwork with the commission on Jan. 3.
Republican challenger Colt Helton filed a similar form on Nov. 29, 2023. Democratic contender Susie Marie Brown submitted documents on Feb. 16.
As of Feb. 20, incumbent Jevin Jensen was the lone candidate to submit paperwork for the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners chairman seat.
His campaign initially filed a declaration of intent to accept campaign contributions on Dec. 29, 2023.
A subsequent campaign contribution disclosure report filed on Feb. 2 indicates the Committee to Elect Jevin Jensen held $1,148.91 in total net balance on hand, with total contributions to date listed at $1,506.26.
So far, two candidates for the District 2 Whitfield County Board of Commissioners seat have emerged.
Incumbent Robby Staten filed a declaration of intent with the commission on Jan. 16. Challenger Christian Phillips filed a similar form on Dec. 18, 2023.
Both candidates list their political affiliation as Republican.
Incumbent Whitfield County Clerk of Superior Court Babs Bailey filed a declaration of intent form on Dec. 29, 2023. The Republican, as of Feb. 20, was the lone candidate to submit paperwork for the position.
Several magistrate judge candidates have also filed with the commission.
Thomas Phillips submitted a declaration of intent form on Jan 23. Bradley Martin filed a similar document on Jan. 25, as did Julia Nguyen-Goulart on Feb. 5.
As of Feb. 20, Sheri Blevins is the lone Whitfield County candidate to submit paperwork for a probate judge bid.
Blevins, whose party affiliation is listed as Republican, submitted a declaration of intent form on Feb. 8.
