An employee of a Westel business in eastern Cumberland County was taken into custody on a theft charge after items were discovered missing and a surveillance video captured the theft, according to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Cody Eric Ray Eling, 39, Bennett Drive, Spring City, is charged with one count of theft of property of up to $1,000, according to Deputy Nathan Lewis’ report.
Eling was taken into custody at his home Monday after investigators recovered the stolen property at his residence.
Deputies were dispatched to Westel Boat and RV off Westel Rd. Monday. An employee reported he was preparing a “unit” for resale and noticed a Dish Tailgater Pro and EAZ lift sway control bar missing. Employees were questioned and none had any information about the theft.
A surveillance video was then reviewed. It showed one of the workers taking the items and placing them in the trunk of his vehicle, Lewis wrote in his report.
That employee was then confronted and after being advised of his rights, admitted taking the items and told Lewis where the property could be located.
Lewis and CCSO Investigator Jon Wirey then traveled to Spring City, recovered the property, and took the suspect to the Justice Center, where he was charged and placed under $7,500 bond. Eling posted bond the same day.
A tentative appearance in General Sessions Court was set for Jan. 13.
