ST. JOSEPH, Ill. — For the first time in Tim Mills’ coaching career, the Teutopolis volleyball team was able to take down St. Joseph-Ogden.
The Lady Shoes defeated the Champaign County powerhouse on Thursday night at St. Joseph-Ogden High School in three sets. T-Town dropped the first set 23-25, won the second 25-23 and won the third 25-16.
“It feels good to have beaten them on their home court,” senior Sara Zumbahlen said. “I love that we kept our energy so high. That was our main thing. We didn’t let our energy get down.”
Zumbahlen started the contest with a service ace.
She finished with two service aces to go along with 14 assists, six digs and six kills.
Head coach Tim Mills said his team’s serving could have been better.
“We’re getting there,” Mills said. “As horrible as the Marshall game was, we didn’t miss serves. It’s a matter of making sure the other team is earning points and you’re not giving them away.”
Olivia Cates finished with two service aces and four digs. Kaylie Jordan had two service aces, 10 assists and four digs. Claresa Ruholl had one service ace and seven digs and Paige Swingler had one service ace and seven digs.
Megan Brummer finished with two blocked shots, one dig and two kills. Kaitlyn Horn had two digs. Madison Miller had one blocked shot, two digs and four kills. Elise Pals had three blocked shots, three kills and one assist. Gabby Tegeler had three digs and seven kills and Marie Zumbahlen had one dig and three kills.

GIRLS GOLF
at Sullivan Country Club … The Teutopolis Lady Shoes finished first out of three teams at Sullivan Country Club.
T-Town fired a team score of 178. Sullivan was second at 183 and Effingham was third at 188.
Molly Habing was the lowest individual for the Lady Shoes, carding a 41. Brileigh Bloemer shot a 43. Halle Bushue shot a 46 and Brooke Thoele shot a 48. The scores that didn’t count were Olivia Wermert’s 52 and Josie Willenborg’s 59.
For the Flaming Hearts, Grace Harper shot a 46. Ella Tuman and MaKenna Mayhood shot 47s and Natalie Armstrong shot a 48. The scores that didn’t count were Allison Kroenlein’s 48, Mya Harvey’s 51, Kylie Pryor’s 53 and Ella Macklin’s 56.
VOLLEYBALL
at Mt. Zion … The Effingham Flaming Hearts defeated Mt. Zion in three sets. EHS lost the first set 23-25, won the second 25-17 and won the third 25-19.
Averie Wolfe had one assist. Sidney Donaldson had three kills, three blocked shots and five digs. Berkley Pullen had one kill, eight assists and four digs. Hannah Thompson had one kill, one service ace, 13 assists and four digs. Bria Beals had two kills, one blocked shot and eight digs. Reghan DeLong had four kills and three digs. Alyssa Martin had one kill, one assist and four digs. Bella Austin had eight kills, three service aces, one blocked shot and 14 digs and McKenzie Love had six kills and two service aces.
at Marshall … The Dieterich Movin Maroons defeated Marshall in two sets. Dieterich won the first set 25-22 and the second 25-15.
Ella Kreke had two service aces, two digs and eight assists. Kinli Michl had two digs. Kinley Will had one kill. Marli Michl had three digs and five kills. Bailey McClain had one service ace. Lydia Wohltman had one dig and one kill. Peyton Blackwell had one kill and one assist. Allie Uthell had one service ace and two kills and Frances Verdyen had one kill and one blocked shot for the Movin Maroons.
at Altamont … The Altamont Lady Indians fell to Sullivan in two sets. Altamont lost the first set 25-17 and the second 25-20.
Makaylee Splechter had one kill, eight assists, 10 digs and one blocked shot. Riley Rippetoe had one kill and two blocked shots. Grace Lemke had three kills, nine digs and three blocked shots. Maya Moore had three kills and five digs. Kylie Osteen had six digs. Laila Hankins had three kills and seven digs and Hope Roedl had eight digs.
at Stewardson … The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Hatchets defeated the Cumberland Lady Pirates in two sets. WSS won the first set 25-18 and the second 25-13.
Brinlie Durbin had two kills and 14 assists. Mya Friese had six service aces, four kills and three digs. Kinley Quast had one service ace, two assists and seven digs. Samantha Hayes had three kills, four assists and three digs. Ellie Wittenberg had two service aces, four kills, one dig and one blocked shot. Brooke Schumacher had two kills and one blocked shot. Colby McCormick had seven kills, one dig and one blocked shot and Alaira Friese had three service aces, one kill and four digs.
“We were challenged tonight, which was nice with the Crossroads Classic coming up,” head coach Ronda Schlechte said. “Overall, we took care of business despite being out of rhythm with our hitting.”
As for Cumberland, Leah Gray had one dig. Brielle Aaron had two kills. MacKenzie Claybaugh had two kills and digs. Suzy Fritts had three assists and two digs. Mia Holsapple had three blocked shots. Maddy McElravy had two kills, one service ace and four digs and Alysa Dittamore had three assists, one kill, five blocked shots, one service ace and one dig.
at Cowden-Herrick … The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats defeated Ramsey in two sets. CHBC won the first set 25-20 and the 25-13.
Gracie Wright had one kill, one service ace, four assists and nine digs. Ellie Miller had six kills. Kyleigh Wallace had two kills, six service aces, two blocked shots and two digs. Haley Doty had one service ace, eight assists and one dig. Birgen Schlanser had two service aces, one assist and 11 digs. Macee Rodman had four kills, one service ace and nine digs. Allison Shields had one blocked shot and one dig. Madison Dawson had two kills. Lizzie Parks had one kill and Addison Wasson had one dig.
at Neoga … The Neoga Indians fell to Robinson in two sets. Neoga lost the first set 17-25 and the second 20-25.
Brynn Richards had one blocked shot, two service aces, two kills, five digs and one assist. Katelyn Strohl had one kill, two digs and one assist. Kember Bryant had two blocked shots, one service ace, five kills and one dig. Laura Knobloch had three kills and seven digs. Audrey Kepp had five service aces, two digs and six assists. at Lawrenceville … The North Clay Lady Cardinals defeated Lawrenceville in two sets. North Clay won the first set 25-21 and the second 27-25.
Matia Price had one service ace, six blocked shots, 19 assists and seven digs. Sylvia Robey had seven kills, four blocked shots and two digs. Haven Cash had two kills and two digs. Callie Johnson had seven kills and seven digs. Chloe Whitmire had four kills and seven blocked shots. Faith Jones had three kills and four blocked shots. Sydney Kincaid had two service aces, one assist and nine digs. Keidra Kuenstler had one service ace, one assist and 10 digs and Karsyn Gaddy had one dig for North Clay.
“I saw much better consistency from the girls tonight,” head coach Jamie Harvel said. “We settled in and finally found a good rhythm halfway through the first set. We have been working extremely hard in practice on our block cover and tonight it showed. The girls came up big in long rallies. They never wavered from the game plan and came out on top. A lot of work ahead, but we are on the right track.”
at South Central … The South Central Lady Cougars defeated the St. Elmo/Brownstown Eagles in two sets. South Central won the first set 25-20 and the second 25-23.
Jalynn Mitchell had one kill and five digs. Bailey Wodtka had seven kills and one dig. Kyra Swift had two service aces and five digs. Maddie Peddicord had two service aces, two kills and six digs. Kinlee Thompson had three kills and one blocked shot. Zoey Feldhake had two service aces and one dig. Mya Schaal had one service ace, seven kills and one assist. Reagan Roberts had two kills, 20 assists, two digs and one blocked shot and Lauren Johnson had two kills and one assist for the Lady Cougars.
As for SEB, Madi Miller had six kills and two blocked shots. Addie Sasse had six kills, one service ace, two blocked shots, two digs and seven assists. Peyton Barker had three kills and one blocked shot. Presley Williams had one kill, four digs and two assists. Maya Barker had one service ace and two digs. Avree Strobel had two blocked shots and one dig. Cordelia Lytle had eight digs and one assist. Jaide Wilhour had one dig and four assists. Chloe Austin had one dig and Addison Koonce had one dig.
BASEBALL
at Dieterich … The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes beat the Dieterich Movin Maroons, 11-0.
Carter Hoene had three hits (one double) and one RBI. Mick Niebrugge had two hits and two RBIs. Jason Kreke had one hit and two RBIs. Austin Borries, Henry Thompson and Jake Bushur had one hit and one RBI. Davin Worman hit a double and Carson Cornell and Gavin Addis had one RBI for T-Town.
Aidan Niemerg started for the Wooden Shoes. He allowed three hits and one walk to three strikeouts. Dawson Hoene relieved him and threw one inning.
As for Dieterich, Mason Lidy, Jaxon Funneman and Justin Boerngen had one hit.
Carson Baxter started for the Movin Maroons. He allowed eight hits, seven runs and one walk to three strikeouts in three innings. Bryce Bohnhoff and Collin Nichols relieved him. Bohnhoff allowed two hits, four runs (two earned) and three walks to one strikeout in one inning. Nichols threw one inning.
at Mulberry Grove … The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats defeated Mulberry Grove, 19-1.
Kale Hardimon had three hits and two RBIs. Clive Schlanser had two singles and two RBIs. Conner Nowitzke, Isaac Wells, Blake Mueller, Kyle Lamb and Daithyn Arnold had one hit and one RBI. AJ Radloff had one double and three RBIs. Connor Vaughn, Hunter Pope and Kaidyn Calame had one hit. Wyatt Rueff had two RBIs and Ben Askins had one RBI.
at Christ Our Rock Lutheran … The Neoga Indians fell to Centralia (Christ Our Rock Lutheran), 3-2.
Colin Blazich hit a double and had one RBI and Matt Propst and Carter Young had one hit for Neoga.
Young started for the Indians. He allowed four hits, three runs (two earned) and three walks to two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. Cayden Hakman relieved him and allowed one hit and one walk in 2 2/3 innings.
at Wayne City … The South Central Cougars defeated Wayne City, 17-3.
Callaway Smith hit a triple and a home run and had four RBIs. Evan Hoover had two hits and three RBIs. Brody Markley hit two doubles and had two RBIs. Colton Smith had two hits and one RBI. Trevan Sidwell had two hits. Hudson Moore had one hit and one RBI. Chase Guerrettaz had one hit. Maddox Robb had three RBIs and Zane Montes and Kaiden Harrell had one RBI for South Central.
Montes started for the Cougars. He allowed six hits and one run with five strikeouts in four innings. Guerrettaz and Sidwell relieved him. Guerrettaz allowed three hits and one walk in one inning. Sidwell allowed one hit in one inning.
GIRLS TENNIS
at Effingham Community Park … The St. Anthony Bulldogs defeated Robinson, 8-1.
Liv Hoene defeated Lauren Staller, 6-3, 6-0. Ellie Link defeated Isabelle Sutfin, 6-2, 6-0 and Mia Kinkelaar fell to Annie List, 4-6, 5-7 in singles matches.
Kinkelaar and Link beat Stallere and Sutfin, 6-1, 6-0. Hoene and Nora Trupiano defeated List and Hannah Davis, 7-5, 6-3 and Anna Greene and Julia Schultz beat Addy Strauch and Avery Strauch, 6-2, 6-2 in doubles.
at Teutopolis … The Teutopolis Lady Shoes defeated Flora, 7-2.
Anna Probst defeated Jenny Powless, 6-4, 6-2. Abbie Lee defeated Elise Duke, 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 and Adi Davidson beat Leah Jones, 6-4, 7-5 in singles matches.
Probst and Davidson beat Powless and Duke, 6-1, 6-2. Lily Stortzum and Lee beat Mya Sloan and Kinley Souder, 6-3, 6-2 and Ella Wermert and Allie Ruholl fell to Ava Patridge and Jones, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.
at Olney (Richland County) … The Newton Lady Eagles fell to Olney (Richland County), 6-3.
Olivia Sornberger defeated Raley Inskeep, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. Paige Klingler fell to McKenna Snider, 1-6, 0-6 and Jailyn Hall fell to Claire Uhl, 2-6, 0-6 in singles matches.
Izzy Probst and Sornberger defeated Audry Runyon and Brielle Sieler, 6-3, 6-2. Klingler and Hall fell to Uhl and Snider, 1-6, 4-6 and Chloe Kroenlein and Kendall Sessions fell to Inskeep and Karlee Bissey, 3-6, 2-6 in doubles matches.

at Ironhorse Golf Club … The Altamont Indians competed against Tuscola at Ironhorse Golf Club.
Tyler Ruffner led the boys with a final round of 50. Evan Elam shot a 51. Joel Bauer shot a 53 and Alex Walker shot a 54. The scores that didn’t count were Charlie Goeckner’s 56 and Cooper Hankins’ 63.
As for the girls, Sophia Pearcy shot a 51, Gabriella Weishaar shot a 59, Cecilia Pearcy shot a 60 and Emma Sphar shot a 68.
at Clay County Country Club … The North Clay Cardinals competed at Clay County Country Club.
Riley Poe shot a final round of 40. Jacob Arnold shot a 49, Brodie Adair shot a 51 and Hunter Czyzewski shot a 53.
As for the girls, Kennedy Jones shot a 41 and Mackenzie Winterrowd shot a 51.
CROSS COUNTRY
at Ballard Nature Center … Effingham, Teutopolis, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Altamont competed at the 2.8-mile Altamont Invitational at Ballard Nature Center.
The Flaming Hearts won the girls’ race, finishing with 17 points. Charleston was second at 47 points and Teutopolis was third at 75 points.
Emery Spicer finished first at 20:51, Baylee Summers was second at 20:52, Morgan Springer was third at 21:09, Drew Weis was fifth at 22:17, Alaina Miller was eighth at 23:17, Haddie Hill was ninth at 23:18, Laney Myers was 11th at 24:44 and Lauren Etheridge was 23rd at 26:24.
CHBC’s Zoe Sarver was fourth at 21:36 and Laney Doty was 12th at 24:50. “Great game by our varsity team tonight, scoring 11 goals in the first half,” head coach Logan Arney said. “We played together and as a team from start to finish, shown by having seven different goal scorers and six assists on the 11 goals. Plus, our third clean sheet in four games.”
at Carlyle … The Altamont Indians defeated Carlyle, 7-1.
Javian Schlanser had two goals and Aiden Rosales, Taylen Parker, Kamryn Wolfert, Cooper Pals and Hayden Summers had one for Altamont.
