EFFINGHAM — The historic streak continues for the Effingham soccer team.
Undefeated. 11-0.
The Flaming Hearts defeated Teutopolis 2-0 at Klosterman Field at Washington Savings Bank Stadium on Monday to keep their record unblemished. Effingham received both goals in the second half of the match. Andrew Wagoner scored the first goal and Maicol Sefton scored the second.
“The boys played well today — a lot of really good passing, a lot of good teamwork,” head coach Logan Arney said. “Maicol and Andrew get on the scoresheet, but that doesn’t happen without 11 other players playing well with them. We made some adjustments at halftime and overall, I was really happy with the performance.”
Sebastian Simoni finished with one assist and Peter Rosen had two saves.
The Flaming Hearts are now up to seven clean sheets this season.
“We’re at seven clean sheets out of 11 games. That’s not normal,” Arney said. “Pete’s been a great leader in the back; our defense has been strong. We communicate well and work together as a good defensive unit.”
Teutopolis goalie Noah Thompson had 11 saves on the other side.
Head coach Aaron Wendt said that Thompson is learning more about the position every day.
“He got thrown into the fire last year,” Wendt said. “He’s definitely one of the better keepers in the area; he’s still trying to learn the position and the nuance of it.”
Below are Monday’s prep highlights from around the area.
