Friday night, hundreds of visitors came out to enjoy the City of Danville’s Downtown Carnival. Hosted in Temple Plaza, the carnival was put on as part of Danville’s First Fridays — a series of free or low-cost monthly events aimed at bringing the community together for fun and entertainment.
At the carnival, Children played to their hearts’ content in several areas around the downtown, including bouncy houses, a rock climbing wall, and bubble blowing with Joyful Bubbles.
In Temple Plaza, a man dressed in carnival regalia and donning an elegant handlebar mustachio walked on stilts, posing for photos with visitors and dazzling the crowd with his acrobatic moves.
A dozen or so people arrived to enjoy the shows on motorcycle, a ritual which one area local says he and several of his friends enjoy every summer.
“We all ride out here together and enjoy the live music in Temple Plaza,” said Mike, who came to the event alongside his wife, Sally, and several other friends.
He has always loved riding downtown, he said, and not just on his motorcycle.
“My mom worked for the Commercial-News,” Mike said. “I was a paper boy and my route was down here by Roselawn School. I rode my bicycle down here.”
