Russ Curtis, a leader who touts 25 years of experience in management of property owners associations and related amenities, has been named interim general manager of Fairfield Glade Community Club.
The Boone, NC, resident, was on the job as of Nov. 14 and will continue until a new permanent general manager is in place, the FGCC board of directors said in an e-blast to its membership Friday.
The executive search firm GSI has been engaged by the FGCC board to assist in that search process, the e-blast said.
Curtis was most recently chief operating officer and general manager of Hounds Ear Club Inc., a private member-owned country club and POA in Boone.
In that role from December 2017-December 2022, he oversaw more than 150 full-time and seasonal employees in daily operations financial stewardship and capital planning, board collaboration, committee and POA relations.
At Hounds Ear Club, Curtis coordinated major projects that included a clubhouse renovation, a new 5,800-square-foot fitness center, pickleball courts, fly fishing beats, hiking trail and golf course improvements.
Under his leadership, the Hounds Ear Club golf course became North Carolina’s top-ranked club of fewer than 165 yards.
He has served as general manager of MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, NC; Eagles Landing Country Club of Stockbridge, GA; Ipswich (MA) Country Club; The Club at Falcon Point in Katy, TX; and Jefferson Club of Roanoke, VA.
Curtis is certified as a club manager, chief executive and manager of community associations. He holds an MBA from Wake Forest University and a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Georgia.
Curtis is the third general manager to oversee FGCC operations in the last four months. FGCC and longtime general manager Bob Weber parted ways in late June. No reason was given for the departure.
A week later, the board hired Bill Culbreath as interim general manager. He abruptly resigned Oct. 29 to attend to what FGCC Board President Greg Jones said were “urgent personal matters.” Jones had filled in to oversee operations until Culbreath’s replacement was found.
