LINCOLN, Neb. — For the third year in a row, the Cumberland Raiders roller hockey team won multiple national titles, winning in the Senior Silver and 15U divisions at the national championships held earlier this month.
The Senior Silver Division clinched back-to-back national titles.
Cumberland also won the national title in the men’s senior division in 2022.
The 15U Division won its second national championship in three years after finishing third last year.
The 19U Division finished second after the 18U teams won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023.
In the Senior Silver Division, Cumberland faced five other teams and went 6-0-1. The Raiders scored 44 goals while allowing 10.
Salt Lake City, Utah, scored the second-most goals with 21.
The Silver Division won its first four games outscoring its opponent 34-2.
In its fifth game against Salt Lake City, the Raiders fell behind 2-0 but goals from Lucky Ghuman and GB Kombaj cut the halftime deficit to 3-2.
Ghuman tied it with four minutes remaining as the game ended a 3-3 tie.
The sixth game against Lubbock, Texas, was dominated by the Raiders in an 11-1 victory.
Cumberland faced Salt Lake City in the championship and it was back-and-forth to start.
Tied at 2, Scott Ferguson put the Raiders up 3-2 at halftime.
Kombaj and Brody Iski scored in the second half to put Cumberland up 5-2.
Salt Lake City scored twice in the final five minutes, but the Raiders held on for the 5-4 victory to clinch the title.
Ferguson was the Most Valuable Player, scoring 20 points off 13 goals and seven assists.
Danielle Ferguson was the Most Valuable Goalie, allowing seven goals in seven games.
In the 15U Division, the Raiders went 4-0 and outscored its opponents 24-3.
In the championship against Bedford, Christian Sarver scored the first goal off an Iski assist.
Up 1-0 at halftime, Iski scored twice in the second half and Sarver added another goal to clinch the championship with a 4-0 victory.
Iski was the MVP, scoring 15 points off eight goals and seven assists.
Sarver was the Most Valuable Defenseman. He scored 14 points off 11 goals and three assists.
Ethan Bonilla earned Most Valuable Goalie, allowing three goals in five games.
In the 19U division, Cumberland split its first four games.
After a 0-0 draw against Phoenix, Arizona, Bedford won the second game, 5-2.
The Raiders beat Lubbock 6-1 in its third game before falling in the fourth game to Utica, New York, 4-3.
In the championship against Bedford, Kovan Sarver scored off a Ben Bonilla assist to put the Raiders up 1-0 at halftime.
Bedford tied the game in the second half, then with five minutes left, Kovan and Todd Crawford scored two quick goals to put Cumberland up 3-1.
Bedford evened the score at 3 with four minutes left, but a double penalty against the Raiders gave Bedford a man advantage.
Bedford scored twice to seal the championship, winning 5-3.
Keegan Williams from Cumberland was the Most Valuable Defenseman.
He scored five points off four goals and an assist.
A pair of Raiders represented other teams at the national tournament.
Adam Armbruster played for Bedford in the World Class Division.
He scored one goal as Bedford finished in sixth place.
Nick Sarver played in the 12U division for Lubbock and finished third.
The other division champions were Seattle (World Class Men), Utica (World Class Women), Phoenix (Co-ed Bronze) and Bedford (10U and 12U).
Several members of the Raiders were selected to play in the World Roller Games Championship in Novara, Italy, from Sept. 7-22.
Iski, Christian and Kovan Sarver and Kegan Williams will represent the 19U division.
Scott Ferguson will serve as head coach of the USA 19U team while Pat Ferguson will lead the USA men’s team.
Danielle Ferguson will represent the United States on the women’s team.
