On Thursday night, Dec. 7, Christmas came to life around the square in downtown Athens.
At 5 p.m., Limestone County Commission Chairman Collin Daly officially lit the courthouse tree surrounded by spectators gathering for the parade.
Then at 6 p.m., the “Bright Lights and Christmas Delights” annual Athens-Limestone County Christmas Parade began at Athens Middle School, traveled Hobbs and Jefferson streets before circling the square to end in the Hometown parking lot.
Those lining the streets watched more than 175 participants in the processional. One float displayed a sign honoring the late former commission chairman Gary Daly. The East Limestone High School marching band provided live music during the route.
