MANKATO — Denisha Cartwright set an NCAA II record by winning the 100-meter hurdles as the Minnesota State women’s team claimed the title Saturday at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Mark Schuck Complex.
The women’s team won its third consecutive conference championship with 252 points, well ahead of Mary at 125.
Cartwright won the 100 hurdles in 12.60 seconds, setting a NCAA II, conference and team record. It’s the second fastest time in the event in all of the NCAA and 15th fastest in NCAA history.
Cartwright continued in the 200 meter, where she finished first with a facility record 23.07, which is second in Division II this spring. Cartwright also won the 100 dash in 11.30, another facility record.
Cartwright, Adeyah Brewster, Tijuanique Morton and Rose Cramer combined to win the 4×100 relay in a facility-record 45.26.
Paige Hickson set a conference record in the pole vault, winning at 13-feet-9 3/4, and Ghada Hamdani set a meet record by winning the triple jump at 42-2 1/4.
Madeline Fretag won the discus throw at 155-7 after winning the shot put on Friday.
Eilika Lane, who was recognized on Saturday for the NSIC Elite 18 Award, won the 400 hurdles in 1:00.34, and MaKenna Thurston took first in the 1,500 run in 4:25.19.
The 4×400 relay team of Miranda Lauvstad, Eilika Lane, Victoriia Ermolaeva and Elizabeth Schmidt took first in 3:50.25.
The men’s team won its 12th straight conference championship with 271.5 points, with Augustana next at 78.
Shemar Miller set facility and Northern Sun records by winning the triple jump at 52-6 3/4, best in Division II this season.
Jabez Reeves won the 100 dash in 10.27, setting a facility record. Reeves also won the 200 meter dash in 20.33, the top time in Division II.
Anthony Collins set conference and facility records in the 400 hurdles, winning in 50.75.
In the discus, Carter Aguilera placed first at 55.48 meters.
The NCAA II meet is May 23-25 at Emporia, Kansas.
Baseball: The Mavericks lost 8-3 to Augustana in the Northern Sun tournament championship game at Mandan, North Dakota.
Ryan Wickman and Louis Magers each hit a solo home run, and Ryan Friedges, who had three hits, added an RBI double.
Cale Haugen pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts.
Friedges, Mitch Gutknecht and Aidan Byrne each were named to the all-tournament team.
Men’s golf: Minnesota State shot 285 in the final round and ended up 15th at the Central/Midwest Regional at Edmond, Oklahoma.
The Mavericks’ three-day, 54-hole total was 855. Central Oklahoma won at 823. The medalist was Alex Hadden of Henderson State at 10-under-par 200 (68-66-66).
Max Brud tied for 39th at 212 (75-66-71), and Jack Klimek tied for 51st at 215 (70-70-75). Ben Lafffen tied for 60th at 216 (72-70-74), Karsen Patton tied for 6th at 217 (77-69-71), and Alex Bradley tied for 85th at 220 (79-68-73).
Gustavus Adolphus
Softball: The Gusties’ season ended with a 3-1 loss to St. Mary’s in the semifinals of the MIAC tournament at Winona.
Greta Dahlen was 2 for 3 and scored a run. Macy McNally had an RBI.
Maizie Anderson took the loss, giving up two earned runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Gustavus ends the season at 23-19.
Bethany Lutheran
Softball: Wisconsin-Superior scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Bethany Lutheran 6-5 in the championship game of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tournament at Thomas Park.
Kaija Mork had a double and home run with three RBIs, and Emily Nelson had three hits. Haley Stockman had two hits, and Ana Christofferson and Bryn Weidner each had an RBI.
Kayla Senne took the loss in relief.
Bethany ends the season at 29-14.
