Minnesota State junior Josh Groll was been named the CCHA Forward of the Week on Monday after helping the Mavericks sweep Ferris State in a weekend men’s hockey series at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
Groll is the sixth Mavericks played to win a CCHA weekly award this season.
Groll scored a power play in Friday night’s 4-2 victory, and he added a goal and assist in a 4-0 victory Saturday for the first conference award of his career.
This season, Groll has four goals and seven assists to match his point total from last season.
Minnesota State (11-8-3, 7-4-1 CCHA) plays at Bowling Green on Friday and Saturday.
Women’s award
Minnesota State’s Destinee Bursch has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women’s basketball player of the week
The junior averaged 22.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the Mavericks’ road sweep at Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. She shot 55.6% from the field and became the the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 points in a career.
This is the first time Bursch has been named player of the week in her career.
Minnesota State (12-4, 9-1 in Northern Sun), which has won 10 straight games and leads the Northern Sun, plays at Minot State on Friday and Mary on Saturday.
Great Gustie
Gustavus Adolphus first-year Kylie Scott has been named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week after scoring a goal in each game of a 4-1 and 6-1 conference sweep at St. Benedict.
Scott has six points in the last five games. She also led the defensive corps that allowed only 37 shots on goal in two games.
Gustavus (11-2, 8-0 in MIAC) plays a home-and-home this weekend with Augsburg, starting Friday at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
