Code Blue in effect Sunday night
Code Blue will be in effect Sunday night through 8 a.m. Tuesday in the city of Lockport, due to forecasted below-freezing overnight temperatures, per a directive issued by Mayor Michelle Roman.
Any homeless person or individual without home heating may go directly to the Salvation Army citadel, 50 Cottage St., between 8 and 10 p.m. for shelter. After 10 p.m., anyone needing shelter should go to the walk-up window at Lockport Police Department, Niagara Street entrance, for assistance.
Nemi joining NYSAC panels
Niagara County Legislator Tony Nemi has been appointed to the Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Employee Relations standing committees by the New York State Association of Counties.
“I look forward to becoming more involved in NYSAC through service on these committees where counties can discuss best practices among ourselves and advocate for needed policies changes from New York State government,” Nemi said.
Nemi said both of the committees have a common theme — looking for ways to improve efficiency and cost control in county government while maintaining services.
“State mandates, civil service rules, employee retention: these issues impact all counties across the state and how we deliver services at a reasonable cost to taxpayers,” Nemi said. “Through NYSAC’s leadership and a unified voice coming from all county governments, I hope we can make progress on these important issues.”
In the legislature, Nemi represents the Lockport-area 11th district.
