CLYATTVILLE — A new community center opened with a ribbon cutting Wednesday in southern Lowndes County.
The Clyattville Community Center is located at Clyattville Park. It includes a kitchen, a dining room/meeting room and restrooms, a statement from the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority said.
“We are thrilled to bring this center to the South Lowndes community,” said Lowndes County Commission Chairman Bill Slaughter. “This is a place where families and friends can gather, hold events, and celebrate milestones together.”
The center is a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax project that voters approved via referendum with the passage of SPLOST VIII.
“More than half of SPLOST funding comes from people who don’t live in Lowndes County,” said VLPRA Board Chair Suzan Garnett. “VLPRA has been recruiting sports tournaments to our community for years, bringing in thousands of visitors from all over the country who compete here and therefore contribute to SPLOST dollars. VLPRA sports tourism operations help provide amenities like this wonderful center for our local residents.”
Now that the project is complete, Lowndes County will transfer the center to the VLPRA for operation. It will be available for community events and residents will also have the option to rent the center.
