MALONE — Swap your way into a new fall/winter wardrobe at the Great Give Back at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Wead Library, 64 Elm St., Malone.
“We’ve been doing the Great Give Back for a few years,” Chelsie Russo, Librarian 1, said.
“It started in Suffolk County. It just started as a day for the patrons of public libraries in New York state to participate in meaningful service. We have done a couple of different things throughout the years. We started a community care pantry.
“And then another year, we made lap blankets for the local hospice. Last year, we accepted donations for local animal shelters. This year, I didn’t want people to just drop off donations and then that was the end of the event. I really wanted to bring people into the library and get a conversation going.
“So, we’ve been accepting donations for the last week and will accept them right up to the event. Then hopefully, we will have people here on the 26th to exchange clothes.”
Only teen and adult clean fall/winter clothing is accepted. Limit is 10 items per person.
“So far, we’ve received a lot of coats,” Russo said.
“We’ve received sweaters and dresses. For the most part, we kind of have clothes that are geared toward women. We haven’t received as many clothing items for men. We have pants and leggings, and I think we have scarves as well.”
