NORTH ANDOVER – In a building where Boston University has enjoyed some serious on-ice success, Merrimack College let the Terriers know that the kindness would not be extended on the hardwood at Lawler Arena on Friday.
The Warriors, before a home crowd of 1,327, moved to 5-6 on the year with a 64-61 win over BU, which also tumbles to 5-6 on the season.
Budd Clark paced Merrimack with 18 points on 8 of 13 shooting with eight assists.
The Warriors led 29-21 at the break and never gave up the lead.
Three times, the Terriers closed within a point.
Each time, Merrimack had the answer.
First it was Devon Savage burying a three at the four-minute mark. Then, it was Bryan Etumnu, draining the answer triple with 1:27 to play.
Finally, BU closed to 62-61 in the last minute, but Matt Becht’s two free throws with three seconds left provided the final margin. The Terriers did not get a potential game-tying shot off.
Merrimack now heads out to Northern California on Tuesday night to challenge Andover’s Aidan Cammann and the Stanford Cardinal in a non-league battle.
