For the past six years, members of First Baptist Church of Dalton have put together “Saturday Sacks” of food for children in need at Westwood School.
The sacks help prevent weekend hunger among students who otherwise might get their only meals at school, said Suzanne Hooie, minister of missions and spiritual formation at First Baptist.
“The food in the sacks is nutritious and purchased from Chattanooga Area Food Bank for pennies on the dollar,” she said. “The program currently serves about 100 children per week.”
Pamela McClure started and continues to lead the Saturday Sacks program with Westwood School.
“Pamela is a retired teacher from Westwood,” said Hooie. “She is passionate about loving and caring for the students there. Last year, Westwood School had the highest number of homeless students in the school system. Pamela’s care and concern for those students is an inspiration to all of us.”
For her efforts to help children in need at Westwood School, the Dalton Daily Citizen names Pamela McClure Citizen of the Week.
