For the past 12 years, Jeremy Hill has been the organizer of the annual toy “store” giveaway at Dalton’s Greater Works.
“He wants to make sure that every child gets something for Christmas,” said Robert Hill, founder and president of Dalton’s Greater Works and Jeremy’s father.
Founded in 1996, Dalton’s Greater Works provides services to the homeless and indigent in the community, including through a food pantry and a clothing “store” where those in need can get clothing.
“His heart is for those kids whose parents are unable to get them something for Christmas,” said Robert Hill.
Putting together the toy store takes months of preparation.
“Our store takes place this Saturday, and he’ll start working on next year’s store on Sunday,” said Robert Hill. “He works on getting donations. He starts looking to get the best deals. It’s not something he does every day for a year. But it’s always on his mind. He’s always thinking of what we need, what we can do better.”
Last year, the store served 375 families and “a little over 600 children,” said Robert Hill.
For his efforts to help children in need have a merrier Christmas, the Dalton Daily Citizen names Jeremy Hill Citizen of the Week.
