PLATTSBURGH — For the second day in a row, five programs competed at CCC in the college’s annual Holiday Classic.
It was a good two-day event for some teams. Both the Saranac boys and girls went 2-0. Additionally, the Peru girls survived a nail-biter against Malone to finish 2-0 as well.
With the conclusion of the two-day event, organizers will look ahead to see how they can improve for the 2024 classic.
Until then, it’s one final look at the final day of the CCC Holiday Classic

GIRLS
SARANAC 59
BOQUET VALLEY 27
Both teams hunted to find their offensive groove early, and Saranac found it by halftime going on to defeat Boquet Valley, 59-27.
“This was a competitive game early on as both teams struggled offensively,” Spartan head coach Tim Newell said. “We have been playing with high energy on defense this season but came out to start this game a little flat.
“Credit Bouquet Valley for executing well in their zone defense.”
When Saranac found its rhythm, they were almost impossible to stop as three players entered double digits.
Layla Pellerin led all scorers with 17 points. Brenna Ducatte and Maddie Gagnier added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
As is their fashion, the Griffin offense went through Claire Reynolds and Ella Lobdell. The pair would lead their team with 12 points each.
“We made a couple of adjustments at halftime and the girls responded with a more focused effort,” Newell said. “We need to learn that we can’t start any game flat and unfocused.
With the win, Saranac improves its record to 5-1. They are currently on a four game winning streak after falling early in the season to NCCS. Boquet Valley drops just below .500 at 4-5.

PERU 32
MALONE 31
Peru was able to give some early season revenge in their nail biting win over Malone, 32-11.
On Dec. 9th, the Huskies defeated the Nighthawks, 50-44. It felt fitting for Peru to get the win.
It wouldn’t come easy.
Malone held a two-point, 13-11 lead in the break and it would forecast what’s to come. It would be a back-and-forth contest that neither team could take hold of and expand on. It came down to who was more focused and composed for the final stretch.
That happened to be Peru.
Reese Duprey was the leader for the Nighthawks with a game high 16 points. Vanessa Lawyer added six for the cause.
Alyvia Roberts and Ava Lilliock led Malone with 10 points each.
With the win the Nighthawks move to above .500, standing with a 4-3 record.
