Bank board chairman retires
Charles G. Nahatis, a leader who served on BankGloucester’s Board of Directors for 30 years, including the last seven as chairman, has retired, the bank said.
Nahatis played a pivotal role in shaping BankGloucester’s strategic direction, fostering growth and innovation and upholding the highest standards of corporate governance during his tenure on the board, according to the bank.
“Charles has been an integral part of the bank’s governance since 1993, and his tenure as chairman from 2017 until now has been marked by exemplary leadership,” said Patrick B. Thorpe, the bank’s president and CEO, in a prepared statement.
Nahatis brought a wealth of experience to BankGloucester. In additional to serving as an insurance executive at John Hancock, he also founded, owned and operated Cape Ann Insurance Agency.
BankGloucester, in a statement, said it expresses its deepest gratitude to Nahatis for his unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions, and extends its best wishes for a well-deserved retirement filled with prosperity and fulfillment.

Brookline Bank President and CEO Darryl Fess has been elected to the New England Council Board.
“The council’s work in uniting businesses — both large and small — from all sectors of the economy, is essential to its efforts in shaping federal policy for the betterment of New England,” Fess said. The council was founded in 1925.
Brookline Bank has 29 banking offices, including branches at 10 Martin St. in Essex, 207 Main St. in Gloucester, 31 Market St. in Ipswich, and 144 Newburyport Turnpike in Rowley. Fess has led the bank since 2010.
Realtor Patricia Gallagher Martin recently joined J Barrett & Company at its Ipswich office.
She has extensive experience in marketing and selling single-family, commercial properties, land, new construction, waterfront properties, condominiums, multifamily homes, short sale and foreclosed properties. She began her real estate career as an agent but soon became the manager of several real estate offices.
She is one of the first female graduates of St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers (in the 1970s), and is a longtime Essex resident.

Hermanson of Georgetown, Philip Layne of Salem, Lyudmila Stone of Lynnfield, Thomas Stacy of Beverly, and James Alan Pixley of Dover, New Hampshire.
