ROUSES POINT — The Saranac boys’ hockey team scored four goals in the second period and broke away for a 7-0 victory over Northeastern Clinton in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Ryan Campbell scored the first two goals of the game for the Spartans (5-2-1, 1-0) and added a later assist.
Ashtyn Catlin, Jackson Coryer, Landon Giroux, Gabe Moore and Declan Baker also scored for Saranac, which had 11 of their players get into the scoring column.
The Spartans held a 1-0 advantage after one period before breaking it open in the second.
Shawn McLane (11 saves) and Max Coryer (8) combined for 19 saves and the shutout in net for the Spartans.
Greyson LaFountain (28) and Camden Badger (14) combined for 42 stops in the NCCS nets.
“Saranac is an experienced, talented and deep team,” NCCS coach Scott Lafountain said. “They skate three quality lines and keep coming at you.
“We came out well and stayed with them in the first period, but then gave up three goals within a three-minute span early in the second. It’s very frustrating because the boys are putting forth the effort. But we can’t score. We had a power play in the second period and they ended up scoring.”
