NASHVILLE — The Bright Futures Coalition, a newly formed local organization whose mission is to promote education, empower the community, and advocate for those who otherwise would not have a voice, held its first banquet at the Community Center in Nashville, Georgia, on Saturday, June 22.
The organization was started from a phone call that Maxine Harris Carter made to former Mayor of Ray City, Dr. Carl Camon, concerning a lack of representation of underserved individuals in our community, according to a press release from the coalition. Camon called a meeting of concerned citizens and after a few meetings, the organization was formed.
During the event, retired Berrien County educator Gladys Bell, Carter, and local pastor Dr. Madine Camon received the Bright Futures Award, in recognition of their commitment, dedication, and service to the community.
The event was accentuated with an elegant design provided by local banquet and event decorator and owner Mary Mollay (Simple But Beautiful Creations By Mya), with a fuchsia, black, and white color scheme, with tall vases of pink and cream colored flowers. Organizers thanked Elaine Landy and her team for a delicious dinner. Live gospel music was provided by Louis Camon and the Miracle Voices of Ray City. Dr. Carl Camon was the keynote speaker for this year’s event. Carter thanked the Bright Futures Coalition members, community participants and local supporters for the success of the banquet.
