TRAVERSE CITY — A body was found early this afternoon on the bank of Kids Creek downtown to the west of the North Oak Street and West Front Street intersection.
Traverse City Police Department Capt. Pete Simerson said the body was reported by a pedestrian who called the police around 1 p.m. to report “a suspicious body” lying on the bank of the creek.
When the Record-Eagle arrived at the scene, officers were sectioning off the area with yellow tape.
What appeared to be a tarp or a folded blanket, a large paperback book, a tomato sauce can and a tall canned drink could be seen in a space on the ground near the sidewalk, not far from the creek’s edge near where the body was found next to the water.
Simerson said they received the call 15 to 30 minutes earlier and that more details will be available over the next couple of days.
