BAINBRIDGE — The Country Gentleman Tribute Band will perform at Bainbridge Town Hall Theatre at 15 N. Main St. in Bainbridge at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24.
According to a media release, in 2005, Bill Yates, 20+ year member of the Country Gentlemen, Darren Beachley and David Propst met at the Cabin Fever Picking Party in Hampton, Virginia. While there, they sang old and new Country Gentlemen songs.
That meeting led Yates and friends to produce “A Tribute to the Country Gentlemen” which was released in December 2006 on the MasterShield Records label of Bridgewater, Virginia. Yates then toured with and fronted the band for nine years.
In 2015, Yates passed away, leaving a historic legacy of music that included performances with bluegrass greats Red Allen, Bill Monroe and Jimmy Martin, and most importantly, the Country Gentlemen.
Today the band includes Mike Phipps on guitar; “Charlie Waller” sound-alike vocals; Propst on mandolin and vocals; Lynwood Lunsford on banjo and vocals; Kyle Windbeck on upright bass; and Beachley on dobro and vocals.
As further stated in the release, the band continues to perform the tunes from yesteryear as closely as possible as it attempts to re-create each tune, vocally and musically, as it was originally presented and performed.
The doors will open at 6 p.m. All performances are open seating. Tickets will be available at the door or may be reserved by calling 607-288-3882.
The art of Colette Aimée will be on display in the art gallery from 6 p.m. through intermission.
