ALBEQUERQUE, N.M. — Bishop Walsh graduate and 2021 Area Player of the Year Ale Puerto made her Division I debut on Thursday for the University of New Mexico.
Puerto took two shots on goal in her first Division I game for the Lobos against UNLV.
She played 26 minutes in New Mexico’s 3-0 loss.
This summer, Puerto played for the Honduras Senior National Team.
In her previous stint on the National Team, she scored four goals, but Honduras failed to qualify for the 2024 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Puerto earned two All-Mountain East Conference selections at Fairmont State, scoring 13 goals with 35 assists across two seasons.
She helped the Fighting Falcons defeat Frostburg State in the 2022 MEC championship, earning the first MEC title in program history.
In Puerto’s senior season at Bishop Walsh, she scored 48 goals with eight assists in only 15 games.
In 45 games as a Spartan, she scored 94 times with 16 assists.
The Lobos (4-2-2, 0-1 Mountain West) hosted Nevada on Sunday.
