PLATTSBURGH — The Saranac Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has generously donated $5,000 to support the ongoing development of the Battlefield Memorial Gateway Park in the Town of Plattsburgh.
This donation, presented by DAR Regent Diane Parmeter to Town Supervisor Michael Cashman on Aug. 19, is designated for Phase 2 of the project.
The park, located along the Lake Champlain waterfront off Route 9 just south of the City of Plattsburgh, serves as a tribute to the area’s rich history, spanning from the Revolutionary War through the modern era.
The DAR’s contribution aligns with its mission to preserve and educate the public about local history while honoring veterans, a sentiment echoed by Parmeter during the presentation.
Together, the Town of Plattsburgh and the Clinton County American Legion are building the Battlefield Memorial Gateway as a place to honor, educate, and inspire visitors from all walks of life through the unfolding chapters of the American story.
The Battlefield Memorial Gateway, a visionary project designed for multigenerational use, stands as a focal point for reflection and community engagement.
A key part of the project, a Purple Heart walking trail, was opened last year. The trail connects with the city’s Terry Gordon Bike Path and continues to serve visitors who want to explore the area and learn about the rich history.
The community is encouraged to contribute to the project, with donations being accepted online or via mail.
“Every contribution, no matter the amount, will help realize the vision of the Battlefield Memorial Gateway as a place that honors the region’s extensive history and serves as a gateway to understanding the past,” Town Supervisor Michael Cashman said.
