For five years, Joey Batt did it all at Minnesota State, on the basketball court and in the classroom.
After guiding the women’s basketball team to a national championship in the spring, Batt has received the Georgene Brock Award as MSU’s most well-rounded senior female student-athlete.
She is the 14th player from the women’s basketball program to win the award, and the first since Liz Trauger during the 2009-10 season.
Batt, a New Ulm native and elementary education major, finished with a 3.97 GPA. She was part of the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence four times and is the seventh MSU player in program history to earn CSC Academic All-American honors.
Batt also earned NSIC Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year honors.
On the court, Batt was a four-time All-NSIC first-team selection, and also garnered NSIC Defensive Player of the Year honors three times. This season, she was a BCA and D2CCA All-American, and helped MSU to the NSIC tournament and regular-season titles, along with its second national championship.
Batt finishes her MSU career ranked first in steals (381) and games played (136). She’s second in total points (1,937) and free throws made (431), and ranks third in field goals made (684). Batt is fifth career assists (421) and eighth in three pointers made (138).
Other MSU athletes nominated for the award include Charlotte Akervik (women’s hockey), McKayla Armbruster (softball), Chiara Carnelutti (tennis), Anna Cihak (women’s golf), Ella DeFever (swimming & diving), MaKenna Thurston (women’s cross country) and Allie Williams (soccer).
