It’s always tough to not take advantage of a strong pitching performance.
Senior captain DJ DiCarlo did everything he could for Amesbury on Thursday afternoon, tossing six innings while allowing just four hits and striking out seven. But on the other side of the plate, the Redhawks were only able to muster one hit themselves, and despite the outing still took the loss up at Manchester Essex, 2-1.
Thomas McElaney had that lone hit for the Redhawks (0-3), smacking an RBI-double in the top of the fifth that scored Andrew Parsons.
NEWBURYPORT: Clippers thumped by Lynnfield
This is one you just want to flush.
Not much went right for Newburyport up at Lynnfield on Thursday afternoon, as it only took six innings for the host Pioneers to cruise to a 13-3 victory. In the field the Clippers (1-2) booted three errors, and their four combined pitchers combined to allow 13 hits with seven walks.
One positive for Newburyport was junior Jack Mercier, who went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Ryan Sanchez, Parker Johnson (RBI) and Tommy Gagnon also had hits for the Clippers.
GEORGETOWN: Rough outing for Royals
After opening the season with two straight wins, Georgetown will want to forget about its third game rather quickly. The Royals hurt themselves with three costly errors on a chilly Thursday afternoon, and took a 10-0 loss up at Hamilton-Wenham.
Brendan Loewen, Oliver Thibeault and Joseph Gentile had the lone three hits for the Royals (2-1). Ty Southall took the loss on the mound, but pitched five solid innings where only one of the five runs he allowed was earned.
PENTUCKET: Tough weekend sees Panthers fall twice
The vibes were high around Pentucket following two wins to open the season.
But those took a slight hit over the weekend, after the Panthers dropped two in back-to-back days. On Thursday it was a rough 9-4 loss to Essex Tech, and on Friday the Panthers couldn’t rebound in a 3-2 setback to North Reading.
A trio of errors proved costly for Pentucket (2-2) against the Hawks, but Jayden Pabst and Luke Duchemin each had two hits, and both Max Cloutier (1-for-4) and Julien Powers (1-for-3) had two RBI. Then on Friday against the Hornets, Luke Pergola was the tough-luck loser after tossing all seven innings with just one earned run and six strikeouts. The Panthers, however, where only able to muster four hits at the plate, coming from Noah Meyer, Powers, Pergola and Tanner Kamuda.
